The Golden Teacher
Updated: Sep 6

By now you’ve likely heard this name a lot! After all, it is the name of our company and the name of the magic mushrooms that we use in most of our microdose products. Sometimes they are referred to as GT’s or Golden Tops because of their beautiful golden colour and shimmering golden flecks that sometimes appear on their caps. They are one of the most popular strains for many good reasons, which we’ll get into. So, what exactly are The Golden Teachers and where did they get their name?
The species were allegedly first discovered in 1906 by Franklin Summer Earle in the land of Cuba. Originally they were named Stropharia cubensis and assigned to the genus Stropharia. Then, in 1948 German scientist Rolf Singer transferred it to the Psilocybe genus, in his journal, Sydowia. These mushrooms have also been found growing in Southeastern parts of the United States, Mexico, South and Central America and Southeast Asia.
Golden teacher mushrooms are a part of the Psilocybe Cubensis family, from cultivators and growers, from beginners to psychonauts, Golden Teachers are an all around favourite. They tend to have an uplifting effect. They are imbedded throughout psychedelic culture, shamanic practices and of course, journeying inward. Effects Golden Teacher mushrooms definitely live up to their name as teachers as they often invoke life-changing lessons through the messages received by the user while under the influence. Trip reports often describe feelings of awe, deep reflection, an ability to come outside of yourself, to view yourself and your life from a different perspective. As with all psychedelic mushrooms, there is always a potential for feelings of nausea, anxiety, a sense of darkness and sadness to come to the surface. Learning how to work with these energies rather than resisting them will serve you well. You can read more about that here.
Dosage
If you are taking any of our microdose products they are a great place to start and shouldn’t leave you feeling any of the perceived negative effects that sometimes come along with a macrodose.
Golden Teachers carry a mild to moderate potency and are excellent for beginners. As with any type of psychedelic substance, newbies should be sure to take a small dose to start, ideally >1gram and have a trusted friend or “trip sitter” there. For more experienced users a typical dose varies between 1 gram and 2.5 grams, and up.
Preparation
Tea: You can use 1 gram of dried shrooms, chopped up, to 1 cup of boiling water. Steep for 15 minutes, you can add in herbal tea to mask the flavour a bit. Ginger or peppermint are often used which can help to mitigate the feelings of nausea that sometimes comes along with taking the shrooms. Let the tea cool, pour into a cup and squish the mushrooms over a strainer and drink up. With the tea I find the high comes on quickly and leaves quicker than with eating them.
Raw: Just chew them up and swallow! Some people find psilocybin mushrooms taste horrible, some kinda like it.
Our Macro500 Caps: We encapsulate 0.5 gram (500mg) capsules so as an easy way to dose our mushrooms.
About Our Products All of our mushrooms come from local, small, trusted sources. Small teams of artisan growers who are focused on quality over quantity, and who love and appreciate the special properties of Golden Teachers. All of our mushrooms are grown organically and gently harvested at the optimal time. They are then carefully dehydrated at room temperature, to ensure none of the active constituents are denatured through overheating, thus maintaining a full potency product.
